Suzanne Simard, a professor of forest ecology at the University of British Columbia had found many pieces of evidence to prove that trees connected through the fungi network could transfer nutrients to each other. She also explained that how massive trees transfer nutrients to smaller saplings. Not only that, but they can also undermine weeds by spreading toxic chemicals. For this reason, its branches grow to the side instead of upward, and they eventually get so heavy that they touch the ground. Moreover, instead of just resting there, the branches sprout roots, and then the newly rooted branch starts growing upward.
When it comes to acute olfactory senses, predatory animals like hyena and dog come to our mind first. And, we don’t think that plants too have a sense of smell. But biologist Dr. Consuelo D. Moraes says that smelling is a major survival mechanism among trees. He said that by using its olfactory senses plants can detect whether their fruits are ripe and when pests are attacking their neighbor. By carrying an experiment on the parasitic spiny dodder, vine biologists found that it can actually sniff out tomato plants. To confirm this, they set up an experiment in which an artificial tomato plant and an empty clay pot were placed on either side of a dodder vine. It didn’t grow toward either of them. However, when a real tomato plant was kept next to it, the vine grew toward it, even when it was kept hidden from plain view.
Every animal on this planet follows a biological clock that sets our sleep-wake cycle and the entire body functions, such as digestion and blood circulation.
