Case Study Application on Parent Child Relationship

    INTRODUCTION

In accordance with the case, there are different set of issues that are being faced by Cruise Family. In order to over come the type of issues that are faced by them, there are different set of theories that are being used by them (Healy, 2005). There are two different type of theories that are being used, they are system theory and Attachment theory. System theory is determined as a theory that states that behaviour of an individual is influenced by different type of factors and all these work as a system. On the other hand, attachment theory with the help of strong physical and emotional attachment enables to support effectively towards personal development. These theories are selected as these will enable to overcome the type of issues that are faced by Cruise Family. For example, Anthony and Andrew argue to their parent and in case it says piss off to their parents. This shown, they do not have proper emotional attachment with their parents and this theory will enable to develop strong emotional bond between children and parents (Teater, 2010).

Literature on the chosen theory as per Cruise Family

As per the type of theory selected both beneficial for parents and they are helpful enough to make sure that the issues that are faced by parent will be solved. In accordance with my perception, in order to solve the issue of the Cruise family, Attachment theory can be used as it enables to develop strong bond among people and connects one another across space and time (Osmond and O’Connor, 2006). However, there are conditions in which the attachment may be one sided. The feelings that one has for other may not be same when compared to other person. On the other hand, System theory understands the type of nature of complex system in science, society and nature with the help of which individual or group is described. It understands the type of issues that are faced by individuals and accordingly steps are considered through which the issues that are faced by individuals are solved (Reisch, and Andrews, 2014). This is an effective form of way that make sure that all that conflicts or misunderstanding that individuals have with others. Both these are helpful to make sure that as per the case the type of problems that children and parents had been solved (Parton, 2000).

Analysis of the case study from the perspective of the theories selected

The health condition of Jill is not good and so that of Bob. Jill is has disability pension for the issues related to panic attack and anxiety. Anthony who one of their eldest son does not visit community service and he is not even attending school. Further, Andrew who is younger than Anthony is following the footsteps of the eldest brother (Anthony). Both of them argue a lot and does not listen to their parents and tell them to be away from their matters. They have an Uncle John who visits both Andrew and Anthony frequently. Parents believe that because of him children are getting these behavioural changes. Further, they have a daughter who is youngest of all. She very demanding and cries out a lot to seek attention. Parents fail to fulfil her requirement and they have only pensioned money to run their day to day living.

As per all the above given scenario of the case, as per the type of experience that I have it can be stated that there is no effective relationship among parents their children. Children are not concern for the type of situation that are faced by their parents (Teater, 2014). In order to over come this issues, one of the theories that can be applied is Attachment theory. As per this theory, there is an attachment that is developed by an individual when they stay close with someone. With time and the different type of situations that are faced increases the rate of issues or the bond of attachment that individuals have with others. However, when there is effective interaction and understanding develop by sharing the views that each one possess, then it becomes helpful enough to raise the attachment level (Northen and Kurland, 2013). As per the case, the attachment that Anthony had is getting reduced and this condition is also applied with Andrew.

Further, System theory is applied as it enables to understand the type of situation that are faced by parents and children. Different people have diverse set of perception towards the situations that are faced by them (Munson and Saulnier, 2014). Andrew and Anthony does not respect their parents and due to this all the conversations that they have becomes useless as they do not listen to what they convey. This theory will enable to develop strong bond with their parents with the help of communication. This is helpful enough to make sure that strong relationship is developed (Healy, 2014).

Main arguments presented by the theory

System theories enables to understand that type of main issues that are faced by all the individuals in the case. With this respect, as per the case, parent and children, in fact all the individuals within the case have issues (Busch-Armendariz, Nsonwu and Heffron, 2014). To make sure that all the problems are identified, it requires help of System theory as it enables to understand the type of main causes for disobedience and frequent arguments. Further, it also supports effective communication with the help of which strong relationship is developed and this way all the conditions that are faced by each of the individuals can be understood.

On the other hand, there is type of attachment that a child has with their parents. With time, because of serious situation faced the attachment gets reduced (Coady and Lehmann, 2016). As per the Attachment theory, there is lack of proper understanding among Anthony, Andrew and their parents. However, with the help of this theory, all the people involved will be able to develop physical and emotional attachment with each other. When emotional aspect is developed, then boost up the moral and contributes effectively towards developing healthy environment.

There is another type of theory which is Crisis theory. This is a type of theory in which individuals when they face any type of obstacle on the path to achieve any type of goal, then there is a period in which individual get depressed (Northen and Kurland, 2013). There are three different type of domains and they are as follows:

    • Developmental crisis: This can be determined as the result of normal life events and this causes strain and stress.
    • Situational Crisis: This is the most common kind of crisis and occurs suddenly.
    • Existential crisis: These are based on large concepts of individuals who attainment and purpose of actualization.

In accordance with the current case scenario, it can be stated that developmental crisis is identified (Reisch and Jani, 2012). In order to overcome this problem, it is essential for the parents to spend time with their children’s so they will be able to understand the issues that are faced by them.

Selection of System and Attachment theory

There are different type of theories that can be applied for diverse set of cases. However, as per the type of conditions that are being faced, it is important to understand them and make appropriate analysis of the case and identify theory (Munson and Saulnier, 2014). This is an important aspect, if the theory selected is not effective, then the situation provided as per the case will not able to over come them. In according with the case given of Cruise Family it can be stated that the relationship between parent and children is not effective. Because of this, both Anthony and Andrew are taking suggestions and footsteps of their Uncle John. Due to this, the anger that their child has over their parent has raised due to which both their children does not listen to what ever they are being told. In order words, the emotional attachment that children should have is not present in them.

In order to develop emotional aspect among both parents and children, System theory is being used. This theory is selected as it enables to understand the condition of all people involved in the case and accordingly try to develop the understanding among each other (McClennen, Keys and Day, 2016). This way it will help to develop an emotional touch for each other by understanding the situation from all the individuals point of views.

Further, Attachment theory is selected as it help to develop strong relationship with each other. When there is understanding among individuals, then the type of conditions and the anger that each one has can be reduced. Further, it also enables to form emotional and physical attachment (Reamer, 2013). Moreover, it also provides a sense of stability and security that helps to over come the risk. This way it will be helpful enough to understand this family in an effective manner and in overcoming the conditions that are faced by them.

    Key principles of attachment theory

    Be sensitive

The basic principles of attachment theory is been sensitive with children. It is the responsibility of the parents to make adopt sensitive natures with towards their children. As per this their parents, In this theory parents have to listen arguments which they are receiving from their children (Healy, 2005). For development of children it is important to develop a sensitive relationship with them so they can grow better. The relationship should be in such a way that chils will be able to understand the issues that are faced and parents should be emotional condition of their child. The sensitive approach also help to child to make social interaction and also their mental health is improved. Jill and Bob cruise also need to develop sensitiveness approach in their parenting so they can understand the actual problem of their child. It also helps to them for attending community services regularly (Teater, 2010). Sensitive is also helps to the for adopting the frequently changes which a child face in their growing age.

    Gentle behaviour

The another principle which is used in attachment theory adopt positive discipline. As per this theory parents need to adopt such positive discipline so they can change their child's behaviour effectively (Osmond and O’Connor, 2006). Parents need to remove threat or discomfort. Gentle behaviours with children helps to them for developing their sensitiveness. It also helps to them for making strong learning components. Parents should not just beat their child for all the reasons but they should make them understand about them the wrong doing as well. Jill and Bob cruise need to adopt this gentle behaviour in their parenting so they can change their children behaviour. Through this gentle behaviour the Cruise can understand the actual problems which are faced by their children (Parton, 2000). With the help of this gentle behaviour Cruise can also send their child to schools and attending community services.

The main key principles of the system behaviour is that is to determining those factors which might effects human behaviour (McClennen, Keys and Day, 2016). There are different types of factors which can influences the behaviour of an individual such as parents, social class or friends. In order to analyses individuals behaviour, need to analyse those factors which can effected to their behaviour. In the given case study the behaviour of the Anthony may get effected by some other person. Jill and Bob need to take understand what are such factors which motivated their children to behaviour. As per this theory, parents need to make effective interaction with their children so they can solve this problem and also helps to develop their relationship (Teater, 2014). It is also included that system theory is helps to parents to improving productivity and reducing discomfort in family.

Experience such as gained experience from others or from a particular event which might affect experience of human (Kadushin and Harkness, 2014). Jill and Bob need to understand the experience of their children and then try to adopt such practices which can reduces impact of their harsh behaviour. Andrew and Anthony behaviour is highly effects by Uncle John. Another factors which effects their experience is that not receiving proper education. Their children is not going school properly and also they are receiving community services regularly. The family status is not also not good. Bob is working as plumber and so they cannot giving much care to their children (Busch-Armendariz, Nsonwu and Heffron, 2014). It is important to give quality time to children so they can give them a good environment for their own development.

If the parents adopt the gentle behaviour the children and also guide them make good behaviour. With the help of this approach the parents also guide their children and develop their thinking is good approach. Cruise family can make their relations more strong with each other.
