Brief and Scenario

You are interning under a five-star hotel chain of the Marriott hotel in the UK. As part of a new Staff Development Programme, you have been told by your line manager to guide the new staff induction, beginning with a presentation for the new members of the team joining the hotel. Your role is to ensure all employees start their job with the knowledge of the current state of the hospitality industry, so that the company can have well-trained and industry-aware employees with the appropriate skills for the organisation to be a successful player in the fast-moving, ever-changing hospitality industry.

Activity 1

You are required to make presentation on your research and findings. The report should contain an overview of, or detailed introduction, the hospitality industry; and in particular include; -

• Analysation of different sectors of hospitality and other forms of businesses that functions within it, and the diversity of the products and services they offer
• an Evaluation of the different operational and functional departments within a large hospitality organisation; providing an organisational diagram to the interrelationships between the different departments
• Identify how the hospitality industry contributes to the local, national and global economy.
• An examination of at least 4-6 different employment roles that can be found in operational departments of hospitality organisations; and the skills required for performing specific role.
• Detailed review of the skills gaps and shortages in relation to a range of operational roles. If you want to develop your presentation to a higher level, you should add;
• an analysation of how global growth, and the use of franchising and licensing agreements, have influenced the development of the hospitality industry, and contributed to its total economic growth.
• Identify how skills gaps of the kind you have identified are impacting on the hospitality businesses, and how they can respond to resolve these issues.

 To develop your presentation to a higher level, you should include;

• an evaluation on how global growth, and the use of franchising and licensing agreements, have impacted the development of the hospitality industry, and contributed to its total economic value.
• Explanation of how skills gap you have observed that are impacting on the hospitality businesses, and how they can respond to resolve these issues.

Activity 2

The next part of your new staff Development Programme is to devise a Business Report which can be used in the next staff meeting.

You must include the following issues:

• A PESTLE analysis
• A SWOT analysis
• A trend analysis

You are required to develop further research which includes critical analysis of how the external factor impacts on current and potential trends in the hospitality industry and develops its response with suitable examples.
